Dr. Savitha S. Sharma

Dr. Savitha S. Sharma is a Senior Scientist in the Department of Molecular Oncology at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Bengaluru. A trained cell and molecular biologist, she holds a PhD from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, USA (2007) and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center, USA (2013), focusing on transcriptional regulation, cell-cycle control, and hematopoietic differentiation. She brings over 17 years of postdoctoral and translational research experience in the field of molecular oncology.

Her current research explores mechanisms underlying cancer initiation, progression, and therapy resistance, with a focus on transcriptional plasticity, radioresistance, and biomarker discovery for early detection. She employs cell-based models, patient-derived organoids, and in vivo systems, integrating cell biology, proteomics, genomics, and metabolomics approaches. She has received multiple research grants, including support from RGUHS, Lady Tata Memorial Trust, DST (Women Scientist-A), and the Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program (USA). She has published in reputed journals such as Oncogene, JBC, Cell Cycle, and Ageing.
